Not sure of the artist, but beautiful quality.
I hope to post more progressively.

One for the Navy

Post  wfrad on Fri 09 Sep 2011, 7:09 am

Here's one for the Navy from around the same period.
Sergeant Major and Seaman of the Navy Guards Crew 1898-1862.
Taken from Russian Navy Uniforms 1997-1917 by V.D. Dotsenko.

My guess would be either marines or coast artillery. I'm not so sure the Russian caption really translates well.

The Guards Equipage, i.e. "Crew." Plain sailors. It was a Russian habit to dress their sailors when on land in uniforms little different from the army infantry's. Viskovatov has an illustration of a naval officer on horseback. In wooden sailing ship days the Russian ships were icebound for half the year, so the crews spent a lot of time on land. At mid-nineteenth century, the chief difference between army infantry and naval full dress was that the infantry had spiked helmets while the navy had shakos.

Taken off ebay, sorry there aren't any titles. Perhaps someone can fill in the gaps.
