Request for assistance

Post  Sean on Sat 03 Sep 2011, 4:30 pm

I am in need of help.
For years I have been fascinated with the uniforms of volunteer units.
I am currently working on illustrations for a series of disks on the British volunteers of the 1890s.
I am stumped with the mess dress of the rifle volunteers clothed in grey. Can anyone help with information on the patterns worn by these units?
Also to what extent did senior NCOs of the volunteers wear mess dress, and if they did can anyone cite examples?
Much appreciated.

Good luck on this. There is not a lot of information out about this. I have one grey stable jacket and I will send you out a picture soon. I think it could have been used as mess dress but probably just for working. I know Yeomanry NCOs and Sr NCOs did have mess dress so a few keeners in the Vol. would have. Never seen any yet though.
