Below: Actually, the first photo isn't of Brazilians at all, but of two US Navy swabs at a Rio de Janeiro brothel.

The close up shows that the hat insignia varies, being crossed rifles, crossed sabers(?), and something else. I believe those aren't tall boots, but rather shiny leather leggings.

Very nice, the cuff lace of the gent leaning on the pillar seems to be that of a general, who appears to be suffering from indulging in good quality wine.
Shame the chart is a little small to see in greater detail, a common problem with a lot of posts is that on the computer they look fine, but then they are then downsized by the host site making reading them a little difficult.

Very well put WF! Actually your tipsy general's uniform shows up again in the figure on left above. While this second plate (taken from a profusely illustrated collection published by the Brazilian military authorities about 1923) shows a range of Etat Major General orders of dress in 1908, full dress uniforms are unlikely to have changed much in the brief interim. Note also how the khaki field uniforms resemble those of the military band in mconrad's other photos.
