Polish Forces of 1863

Post  Sean on Fri 28 May 2010, 2:16 pm

In 1863 the Poles rose in rebellion against the Imperial Rusiian authorities that controlled their country. Whilst most were probably dressed in civilian clothes or semi-military patterns, a number of units had the full rig.
The illustration below comes from LÍllustration, circa 1863.

--Quite right. The 1863 revolt did not produce large-scale set battles as in 1831 and the 18th century. Instead, the revolt quickly became a protracted hunting of small Polish bands by small Russian army groups through the forests.
