Just to keep things going, if it loads.
I've added brief description to page to make things easier.
Original text in German.

That's very interesting WF. Thanks for posting. The figure on the left with a mitre headdress is of one of the Kaiser's Castle Guard Company which dated from about 1829 to 1918. The various German states seem to have been fond of ceremonial court troops (and of course the UK still has Gentlemen-at-Arms). The Bavarians had Halberdiers with the same pattern of heavy braiding on the light blue that characterised most of their pre-1914 uniforms.

The mitre caps were another interesting survival. Characteristic of 18th century grenadiers, they survived until World War I as part of the gala dress of the Prussian 1st Foot Guard Regiment and the Russian L-G Preobrajenki Regiment. Reportedly some of the brass fronts of the latter's mitres still had musket ball holes visible, from the Napoleonic Wars.

Good job Wfrad, would you happen to have something for the enlisted ranks?

I am especially looking for a WW1 era field uniform rank insignia chart for the Germans.

Also, what program would you happen to use? Corel Draw?

German field rank

Post  wfrad on Wed 29 Oct 2008, 4:35 am

Chris
I have a little on field rank both regular cavalry and infantry along with jäger and schützen.
I would take a little while to do a chart or the alternative would be to scan from source.
The illustration of the Feldwebel der kaiserlich-preußischen,Schloßgarde-Kompnaie in Galauniform um 1880 was taken straight from Uniformen europäuscher Armen with rank details added in Corel [I also us PhotoPlus10].
As for buistR translation and info, great,
I was only going to put Warrant Officer unassigned Guards company. I left it out because it may have lost something in poor translation.
In the aforementioned book there's a number of illustrations of field uniform of the WW1 period.
Two things prevented my posting them, Space and copyright issues, didn't wish to get sight into trouble by posting copyright items.
regards
WF
